This year marks an incredible milestone: the 10th Annual Cheryl's Run. For the past decade, I've had the privilege of being involved in this remarkable event, and every year I am reminded of the power of community, compassion, and hope.
Cheryl's Run was created in memory of Cheryl, a dedicated nurse at the Stollery Children's Hospital who devoted her life to caring for others. As a teenager, Cheryl was diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia, a rare and serious blood disorder. Through strength, determination, and treatment, she overcame the disease and went on to build a fulfilling life doing what she loved most, caring for children and their families at the Stollery.
Tragically, Cheryl's Aplastic Anemia returned later in life. Despite undergoing treatment, she passed away due to complications related to a bone marrow donation. Although Cheryl is no longer with us, her legacy continues to inspire thousands through Cheryl's Run and the lives that continue to be impacted by this event.
Over the past ten years, Cheryl's Run has raised significant funds in support of pediatric health initiatives. This year, proceeds will continue to support the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation, with funds specifically directed toward the Awasisak Indigenous Children's Program, which provides culturally appropriate support, advocacy, and services for Indigenous children and families receiving care.

Held in the beautiful surroundings of Edmonton's Laurier Park and River Valley, Cheryl's Run offers something for everyone:

- 10K Run
Whether you're an experienced runner, a casual walker, a family looking for a fun outing, or someone who simply wants to support a great cause, there's a place for you at Cheryl's Run.
More Than Just a Race
What keeps me coming back year after year is the incredible atmosphere. The event is filled with positivity, encouragement, and a shared commitment to making a difference in the lives of children and families.
Supporting Cheryl's Run goes beyond race day. Over the years, our team has also participated in blood donation events through Canadian Blood Services, helping raise awareness about the ongoing need for blood and stem cell donors. There are so many meaningful ways to get involved and make an impact.
Western Dental Academy Changemakers Join the Movement
This year, I am especially excited to announce that Western Dental Academy (WDA) has created a team called, Western Dental Academy Changemakers, and will be joining Cheryl's Run on Saturday, September 26, 2026.
Our team is coming together to run, walk, fundraise, and support this incredible cause. Community involvement is one of WDA’s core values, and Cheryl's Run is a perfect opportunity to make a difference while celebrating health, wellness, and giving back.
We will also be hosting a booth at the event, where attendees can meet members of the Western Dental Academy Changemakers team, learn more about who we are, and discover the educational opportunities and community initiatives we support.
